VFXRun Browser
A downloadable tool for Windows and macOS
VFXRun Browser is a free local-first VFX preview tool for 2D game developers.
If you work with PNG sequence effects, hit effects, slash effects, buffs, explosions, UI animations, or other 2D game VFX assets, VFXRun helps you browse and preview your local effect folders as real animations instead of static thumbnails.
Features:
- Scan local folders of PNG sequences and GIF effects
- Preview 2D VFX animations before importing them into Godot, Unity, or another engine
- Search and filter effects by filename, color, or effect type
- Mark useful effects as favorites
- Open the original asset folder when you are ready to use an effect
- Test effects with a background, character, or object
- Move, scale, rotate, and flip effects before exporting

This is an early version. Feedback from 2D game developers is very welcome.

Install instructions
Windows:
Download and run the Windows installer.
If Windows SmartScreen shows a warning, click "More info" and then "Run anyway". This happens because VFXRun is an early version and the installer is not code-signed yet. Please only download VFXRun from the official website or this itch.io page.
macOS:
This build is for Apple Silicon Macs.
Download the .dmg file, open it, and drag VFXRun into Applications.
If macOS says the app cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified, right-click the app in Finder, choose "Open", then confirm again. This happens because the early macOS build is not signed and notarized yet.
VFXRun is local-first. Your files stay on your computer.
